The Archon Project

So recently I’ve been doing some filming for fitness group The Archon Project. They’re a great group of guys who know a lot about what they do.

Unfortunately I can’t share the finished product with you as you have to be a paid subscriber to get access to them, but here are a few stills I took for their website which you can check out and get some more information on what they do and their vision.

Enjoy!

Human Rights Day 2015

Human Right’s Day was easily one of the craziest days of my life. A football tournament in celebration of all things equality, we woke up at 5am and didn’t wrap up ’till gone 11pm. The awards ceremony was all a bit of a haze, but it was definitely a resounding success with roughly a thousand people turning up, cash prizes totalling more than R5000, celebrity guests such as Ruby star & humanitarian Chester Williams, and all the Boerewors roles you could eat.

It also felt like the message of the day sunk in, with people cheering for teams from all over Cape Town, both male & female and with black, white and coloured people playing on the same team…

Bo Kaap & the Waterfront

During one of my free weekends, I talk a walk with friends around Bo Kaap & the Waterfront.

Bo Kaap is a famous tourist destination in Cape Town due to its magnificently coloured houses. The reasoning behind this is the Muslim community were forced to wear dull shades during Apartheid. The vibrancy of Bo Kaap is a celebration at the freedom of expression that exists in post-Apartheid South Africa.

Visiting on a very quiet Sunday, what I found interesting was that the community has not been effected by tourism in any noticeable way. No pedlars of tat & souvenirs were to be found and, quite honestly, I had to hide my camera eventually because I didn’t feel particularly safe carrying it around…

Area Games

The Area Games were just one of the many tournaments the charity Oasis and I were part of during my three month in Cape Town. In the Area & District games, children compete in Football, Netball, Chess, Draughts, Morabaraba, Dominoes and even Scrabble with the hopes of qualifying for the Cape Town Games

My official role was to document the number of people who turn up and evidence it with photographs for future funding applications. The event was a success with a great turnout, but when you’re in a country as beautiful as Cape Town you can’t not take a few cheeky snaps for yourself! Below are some of the pictures I took for Oasis & also some just for me…

Cannon Hill Collective 2014-15

For the past few months, I have been taking part in the third wave of a project known as the Cannon Hill Collective, an amalgamation of young, talented artists based in Brum looking to further develop themselves within their art form, and within their career.

This time round, the project has been focused heavily on self-reflection; how we came to be who we are, not only in our work, but within ourselves. Working with facilitators Amy Martin & Louise Byng and collaborating with artists Leo Kay and Anna Smith from Unfinished Business, we explored definitions of ‘self’ through writing, meditation, post humanism study and a whole heap of other activities to try and get us to see the world in a different way. The culmination of this first part of the project is a self-reflective video that ties in with Leo & Anna’s project ‘Change My Mind‘. This took place after an intensive week in which we were tasked with the aforementioned activities.

The photos below are taken from that week, and also from some presentations we did, which you can read about here.
